Growing up in the KC metro area, going to Westport was always sort of a rite of passage. When you turned 18, you went out to Lawrence or "Mad"hattan or Mizzou. But when you hit 21, you went to Westport to shut it down, then off to the river boats. Back in those days when Stanford's was still there, it was not uncommon to run into a famous comedian or two, or into whoever was headlining that weekend in the city or even quite a few Chiefs players. It was "the" spot so to say. So it leads me to ask the question: What happened to Westport?
Now, I know what many of you are thinking, that Power & Light put Westport on the back burner. But I was noticing a steady decline in patrons even before "P&L" opened it's doors. Well maybe some of you guys out there can help me answer this question. Tell me what you think, leave me a comment.

When I lived in Lawrence, I used to go to Westport all of the time (this was around 1990-1993). It had underground clubs like the shadow, and was a bit dangerous yet still somewhat hip. Last time I was in KC I drove around westport and everything seemed so commercial and mainstream, it seemed like it has turned into just another trendy area for bored yuppies.
